Eagle Ranch is now hiring an Equine Program Barn Assistant
REPORTS TO: Equine Program Manager
EMPLOYMENT CLASS: Part Time (20 hrs/week); Non-Exempt
SCHEDULE: 3-4 days/week; at least one weekend day
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
- To assist Equine Program Manager in managing and maintaining horses, equipment, and equine facilities
- To care for horses during Equine Program Manager breaks
- To assist in horseback riding lessons, summer camp, and group development sessions with students
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the maintenance of barn, arena, pastures, and equipment
- According to schedule provided by Equine Program Manager, provides daily horse care including but not limited to: feeding, watering, administering medications, grooming/bathing, basic first aid, and veterinary care.
- Runs errands as necessary to pick up hay, grain, shavings, replace equipment, etc.
- Helps prep facilities and horses for therapy sessions or group development activities
CORE COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
- Mature Christian, actively involved in local church and committed to their spiritual walk
- Experience providing care to horses and/or livestock
- Able to predict horse behavior and has a knowledge of horse and handler safety
- Understand show to correctly care for a herd of horses and maintain high health standards
- Able to work independently without alway shaving detailed instructions
- Strong internal work-ethic, as well as good personal character and integrity
- Ability to follow direction and take feedback, as well as think creatively and quickly
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with tractors/farm equipment
- Valid driver’s license
